Mommy and Me classes (music and art) are in the mornings and after school enrichment classes such as lego (drop off) in the afternoons for kids 2-6. In the fall, these classes will be in the afternoons and payment is made at the time of sign up.
My music classes are very interactive, and the children use a variety of instruments. Most of the songs they sing are nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They also follow the Learning Without Tears program when they use their rhythm sticks or bells. I also use the flannel board and sing songs and activities that incorporate school readiness skills. Various movement activities using a parachute are integrated to encourage active learning
My art classes are sensory based and every class has either playdough, shaving cream or paint activities that follow various themes. During each class, I will read a story and there will be a craft that follows the book theme. The classes consist of children similar in age, max 5 kids per session. It is a child led experience to explore 4 different multi-sensory stations at their own pace. The stations are broken into 4 categories: dry sensory bin, a sensory activity or craft, painting project, and a table top sensory play experience.
As with my lego classes each week, the children follow a routine. The class starts out with a lego challenge and then I read a Lego book and after the Lego story they will create various buildings or structures that the book is based on. Some challenges follow various themes (community helpers, letters, vehicles). At the end of the class, each of them share what they have built. I take photos of their creations and send them to their parents. They will also have some free unstructured time to build or play. For preschool aged children, duplos are used and for the older students, we use the regular size legos. These classes promote language skills, problem solving, creative expression and social skills. I do have an assistant teacher that help me in both lego classes.
I provide reading instruction on weekly or biweekly basis for children (ages- 5-8) who need extra support and help with learning the foundations of reading. Instruction is given through a multi-sensory and phonic approach. I use a variety of hands-on materials, including the Haggerty, Wilson and Learning A-Z program. Weekly, I work closely with parents because carryover between home and school is vital.
All the activities are age appropriate, and I use all of my own supplies.
My name is Miss Rachel. I have been teaching for over ten years in many different pre-k classes as a Special Education teacher and reading specialist. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from NYU and a Master’s degree in Reading from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. I am a ABA therapist, trained in the VBA and Greenspan Approach.
I have a passion for reading, art, and Lego play. I use visuals during instruction to help my learners understand and follow directions. I genuinely enjoy getting students engaged with fun rewards, movement, and creative play. It is seeing the positive outcomes that come out of purposeful, intentional teaching that is so amazing.
I teach online and in person individual and group reading, art, Lego, ABA therapy and many other fun topics for ages 8 and under and also Mommy and Me classes for parents in the area. I make all my own teaching materials and they are sold on my Teachers Pay Teachers shop page (Rachels Learning Products LLC). You can also find fun educational materials sold at my Etsy shop (Fun Learning by Rachel). Information about my classes is on my Facebook page. Sign up for my In-Person classes is done through email-rlearningproducts@gmail.com. I am fully vaccinated! Please check out the links below for available classes.
